I find the 2L engine isn't very attractive because of the shape of the rocker cover & the hose that goes across the top from the exhaust to the airbox inlet. Sorry 2L people but I do.

That Aero fuel cap looks very nice & the lock will be handy when the fuel riots start.

The fuel filler design can be perfectly enhanced using the Newton Equipment Aero range cap (http://www.newton-equipment.com/Aeronew.htm).

Which model number (Aero range cap) did you use? Got any pictures of the installation of it?

IF you don't like the plastic dash
get intouch with ( RJS )Rob he hand makes the most beautiful real wood dashes you have ever seen.He is here , He is one of us and he has pics on his album
At a reasonable price and he will make them out of any wood color ,type you wish for the same price.

On the engine top, Hey !!I powder coated it black it looks as good as the sprint or better.

Never had any problems with my lights. I had a tr7 from 1975 till 1979
bought one last june and have never had them fail on me.

The chrome on the windshield , Ya i was planing on painting it black.

I never had any problems with the gas tank and i live in Florida allways rains and its alway humid.

The only thing I wish i had is room for the kids in the back.
The trunk is to small and they don't like the dark to much.

Hi Cliff,

I haven't installed mine yet. (The pics above are of Malcolm Paris' car, which already had this installation when he bought it.)

For mine I had the section under the filler (above the access box) cut away

The lip of the old filler was rolled up and holes drilled to support the cap

Now that my knees have gone the car is too bl**dy low!
Of course, that's not the car's fault.
The biggest problem on my car is the electrics, but a large part of that is due to the efforts of the previous owners to bu**er it up!
I agree that the water pump design is insane as is the method of attaching the cylinder head. They were obviously designed by a fool that only expected these cars to last 5 years!
There are also a couple of "modern" parts that were adopted before they were proven not to work well, the dash flexible circuitry, and the speedo cable with the easily broken plastic clip on end.
Does that Newton Commercial fuel filler have an "O" ring or other type of seal to stop water getting in?

Cheers,
Rich

The ridiculous rust spots and minimal rustproofing......

I bought my '80 DHC back in '86. It already had one bubbling front wheelarch when I bought it. 2 years later it needed new metal in all of the wheelarches, new sills, new doorskins, new metal on the front panel, rear floorpans, rear bulkhead, front bulkhead and then there's that ridiculous welded joint between the rear wings and sills. It's perfectly formed to capture condensation.

The guttering under the bonnet's leading edge doesn't drain properly if the car leans to the left or the right. Why? Because some idiot placed the drainage holes in the centre. Park on an incline in the rain and the bonnet's double skinned corners are immersed in water for a nice rusty future.

The water pump gave up at 33,000 miles soon after I bought it and the Pirelli rubber mats holding up the seat bases perished at 7 years old as did the heater matrix. The advertising for the 7 pitched it against the Porsche 924?

The ragtop only leaked when it rained.

Oh yes, it was slower than most of the XR3i's and Gti's of the time but I loved it. In V8 form it's fantastic and we've been together for 23 years now.

Along with many of the above my top hates include the waterpump and that silly little brass pipe that you have to wedge in between the pump cover and inlet manifold. Sure, it has an o-ring on each end but do they seal? Do they 'eck!

Shimming up the cam buckets was the most frustrating job with the most painful being timing - it really has to be the most ridiculous place to have a distributor. Oddly all those gripes are with the 2 litre, life has been much simpler with the V8, you can get at most things really...
