Stevies right I couldnt find my car, the car park looked completely different in the dark and my new glasses dont work very good.

Chris, appears you should not have got those new "white goods" glasses.

I would have expected, a man of your experience would have restored
your old ones.

Hasbeen, I tried to restore the old ones but there were no replacement parts available so had to buy new.

I was only there on Friday but thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. I find it amazing that the TR Drivers Club has the most impressive stand of all the Triumph clubs but I suppose that is just down to the unrivalled enthusiasm of the membership and also the officials responsible for putting the stand together.

The highlight for me was seeing Gordon Birtwistle demonstrate the inherant fault with the TR7 rear end - he made it all seem so obvious and I wonder why I had never realized it was such a basic flaw before. Gordon apparently did actually modify a car to demonstrate to the management (using a panhard rod arrangement just like the Works rally cars) but the management couldn't tell the difference when driving. No doubt putting a few quid on the cost of producing the cars would have proved prohibitive in the end but it makes you wonder what could have been. Whatever, I now want a panhard rod arrangement on my car.

I know the rallye cars had a panhard rod (obviously because it was better for rallye racing) but what is the inherent flaw in the production set up. If management couldn't tell the difference, can we if we're not on the track and doing just spirited driving on twisty roads?

It's the whiplash swing if you lose the back end and correct it which causes the car to then immediately slide the other way. I've only come across it on wet or snow covered roads but when it happens it's bloomin' frightening. A panhard rod seems a very easy modification - anyone else done it to a non-rally car that can give us an opinion?
