engine bay gets de - shultzed and painted

Postby gaz » 29 Oct 2008 12:24

well here we are again, i once posted a couple of threads titled "engouragment needed" well i don't think its encouragement needed i think its a "shrink needed" this time
pics of work been done
well the engine bay at least..........
this one i posted it a couple of weeks ago on another thread but i'll put it in this one to compare..........
Image
as we can see pretty standard apart from the carbs and tubular manifold and sports exhaust..........and as it is at the moment i'll post some more piccis as it progresses............

Now i wouldn't say i am going to go to town on this but i was thinking
about painting the tubular manifold with the heatproof paint or using wraps although i am a bit concerned about using wraps on the exhaust because of there placment in the engine bay ie. directly underneath the grills on the bonnet and the fact they will wet more often than they are dry so im thinking rusty crusty pipes what are your thoughts guys

Wraps will help to keep the heat off the starter motor.

I would get them ceramic powder coated. You can do it your self with cheap paint sprayer (ceramic is in a water slurry). You then bake it a 500 degrees in a kitchen type oven and the balance of curing is done with heat from exhaust. The ceramic coating will insulate heat (which transfers further down the pipe.) Scratch and chip resistant like regular powder coating. Or you could get it professionally done. You can get spray paint specifically for exhaust manifolds but while cheaper won't give you heat insulation or sratch resistance that ceramic will.

ive bought some satin black manifold paint today i only really wanted to get rid of the rusty covering thats on the pipes at the mo...
wraps always look good on tubular manifolds and i would have prefered that look but retained water in the wraps is a worry as for the diy ceramic coating sounds good but i'm not sure i would fit a tubular manifold in my oven

looking good Gaz......

Prolly something I 'M going to tackle on my car in the next few years, there's definitely some areas on mine that I want to tidy up too, that just can't be done with the motor in place.

Was just reading today actually on Eastwood's line of silver cadium rattle can paint, that does a nice job on master cylinder boosters ect

that as my next step, i was going to ask if anyone has any suggestions for the servo, coil, etc. i was thinking maybee satin black
can't wait to get it back now the longer its away the more i start thinking of what else i can spend money on and scares the hell out of me
i know it takes a lot effort and money to put together a v8 but keeping the 2 litre can't be far behind i know my wallets feeling a lot lighter these days

Eastwood (and probably Frost in the UK) sells a kit to replicate the CADII finish on the brake booster.
Haven't tried it myself so I can't give a review.

for the record, I was just reading the Hemmings Muscle Machine review in the newest issue ( December 2008 ) They like it very much, but did also mention that it was not exactly like a cad finnish, but prolly as close as you would expect from rattle cans....

Very nice work. I see you and I employ the same exhaust-hanging techniques while the engine is out! LOL I do the same [:D]
