Car radio wires

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 23 Jul 2008 20:32

I need a little help with the connecting of my radio. I have a connector which all the wires go into. The speaker side is good and all connected to the right ones.

On the other side I have the black connected to the body and the red connected to the cigarette lighter, permanent live and that is it. I do not have any connections for the memory back up and when I connect the radio, nothing. I have connected a multi meter to the red and black connections and they read around 13.5 all the time.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on here and why the radio will not work? Also are the connections right or should I have the live connected to another place? Cheers

you put a live feed from the ignition for the main power and the memory would be a permanent live from your cig lighter that way youll keep all your pre-sets and it'll only come on with the ignition....... so no flat battery
...... is there an in line fuse before the radio plug in if so is it and fuse holder ok
if still no joy ive got an auto electrician working on my 7 tommorow afternoon i could pick his brains for ya...........

if its an iso connector it should look something like this:

It rides again

Thanks for this, from what you are saying and what I can see I need to connect the memory backup (yellow) to the cigarette lighter, (which currently has the red one going to it). I also need to find the ignition cable, which from what I can see is no where to be seen and connect the red cable to it. Then hopefully it will all work, fingers crossed.
Hope that makes sense reading lol.

To the left of the heater, next to the speaker wires in the loom you will find a white & pink wire. This is the ignition activated live for the radio.

Steve, you are a star mate, thanks for this I will have a look when I get home tonight and hopefully get it all working. Then I will be able to get the center console back on and get the car looking like normal for the MOT

Thanks for your help guys, I found the white and pink cable and it all works a treat. The last owner covered it all up with black tape???

The only issue now is that there are too many cables at the back and too long, so the radio will not fit in nice. Think I will have to trim them up and cut them down
