These pictures of TR7 towers are all very well but it isn't making my car go any faster. [:D]

I spent last Sunday at the track & it was a very fustrating day but had some good points.

Firstly, it was mostly wet so the lap times were not great. Secondly, it wasn't as well organised as it usually is so I didn't get many runs in. Typically, the lunch break coincided with the best weather of the day and at 3.00pm it started to really bucket down so I packed up & left.

On a more positive note the front grip is a lot better. Also the car's balance was very neutral & when it started sliding around in the corners it was a nice drift rather than 1 end wanting to swap places.

The brakes were better too. I have the rear proportioning valve for the rears almost wide open & the rears weren't locking and it was stopping better - although there was a bit of brake steer.

So the work I've done with the suspension & brakes has been rewarding.

Only 1 run was on a dry track & on that occasion I had to contend with traffic so I was reasonably happy with my lap time even though it was a second off my best.

I had the timing checked & adjusted on the Saturday but I felt it had taken some of the power away. A bit subjective really.

The other problem I'm having is fuel starvation. It happenes everytime exiting the esses on the approach to turn 4 (hairpin - see satelite image - cars run clockwise). It doesn't matter if I'm in 3rd or 4th gear or if I have a full tank. Once I'm into the hairpin it clears & doesn't occur anywhere else on the track. The fuel pump is good for 7psi but it is regulated to 5 (I did try it at 7 but made no difference) & the carb is a Holley 390.

Any clues?

The only thing I broke was an exhaust mount so that's always a good days racing.

I had no idea there were so many TR7's in Oz. Apart from mine I've only ever seen one other and that was years ago!

Add to that there is a yellow TR shell in storage at my father in laws.
Peter are you sure it is fuel starve. Many years ago when we used to race standard Mazda rotaries we used to suffer from a bad hesitation exiting a fast left hand bend onto the main straight at Oran Park. It turned out that the fuel would flow out of the fuel bowl breathers and sit on the secondary throtle butterflies. when we opened the throtle the fuel would be released into the manifold momentarily flooding the engine and apearing to be starvation.
I am not familiar with the Holley 390 but it might be worth investigating. The cure was to put restictors in the float bowl vents on the secondary side of the carby.
Cheers Troy

I had a similar problem with a Brabham 1500 [AF 1.5] in the late 60s. At Warrick Farm, the thing would stutter for a couple of seconds when asked to go, comming out of creek corner, [slow hairpin] at the end of the main straight.

We finally discovered the petrol was pouring out of the 45 DCOE Webers, under the long heavy braking required there.

In my experience, starvation only occurs after a long sustained full throttle run.

I think yous guys have hit the nail on the bonce with the flooding theory.

I had a look at the ramflo filter and the underside is sticky & eroded in places. I'd say fuel is being sprayed onto it by the bowl vents.

Holley say pressure should be between 5-7.5 psi & my pump can't do more than 7 & is regulated to 6 so it isn't excess fuel pressure.

I'll check the floats AGAIN dammit. Why would it only be happening when a LH is closely followed by a RH corner?

Maybe I should disassemble the bowls & check it over thoroughly.

Peter, you may have difficulty finding new foams, for your Ramflo
filters. They were recently taken over by Unifilter.

One accessory place told me they did not stock them, but, when I
looked, they were on the shelf, in Unifilter bags. Perhaps those
over there are a bit better than ours, but somehow I doubt it.
