Postby higgie » 30 Jun 2008 16:36

HI TR7 FANS

COULD ANY ONE HELP ADVISE ME ON THE FOLLOWING ISSUES I HAVE:-

1. JUST RE FITTED A NEW CAM COVER GASKET AND NOTICE THAT I HAVE TWO OIL LEAKS WHAT LOOK LIKE PIN HOLES JUST ABOVE THE TWO FRONT PLUGS. IN LOOKING AT THE OLD GASKET I NOTICED THAT OLD ONE HAD WHAT LOOKED LIKE SILICON TO THE ONE SIDE, IS THIS NORMAL AND IF SO WHERE COULD I GET SOME FROM?

2. WHEN I REMOVED THE CAM COVER I NOTICED THAT THE LOCKING PLATE WAS ADRIFT WHAT ARE THE ISSUES WITH THIS ( I THINK IT IS PART NO 154161 FROM RIMMER CAT)

THE CAR IS A 2L 1982 MODEL.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Hi Higgie,
The sealant is used by a lot of people to help seal the gasket against the head, but can work the other way if too much applied allowing the gasket to slip [:(] If 'rubbery' in feel then poss RTV or similar, If blue then Hylomar, any other colour poss a type of Hermatite.
Close call that lock plate loose, that locks the bolts that retains the camshaft sprocket, if that fell off then game over [xx(] Did you check to see if bolts were tight as poss left loose when head work or cam chain work done in the past [?] If not please do!
Any pictures of these holes[?]
Cheers John
