My top is original (but looks new). If the hood is just put up it won't reach latches. If I let it sit for a bit (say an hour or two) it will then latch. The other option is to warm it with a hairdyer (this is most likely how the hairdressers car rumour got started) then the vinyl is soft enough to latch up. Needless to say you don't want to lower the hood and go for a drive if there is a chance of rain. I've been soaking it with Macguires vinyl restorer to see if that will soften it.
