[8D] I just bought a 76 tr-v8. it has a 350 v8 out of a 69" Corvette.Munci 4 speed and a solid ford 8" rear-end. Topped off with a nice roller cam it just goes (And i dont mean maybe!) I am having issues with traction and would like to know how large of a rear tire will fit without any fender modifications[?] By the way its exceeding 450 hp.

185/70....just kidding

225mm wide without major changes. I bought some 15x7 wheels for the rear of my TR8. They have the 4 x 100 pattern which is so commom and 45mm offset. The original wheels have only 25mm offset. I drilled the TR8 stud pattern into the wheels(on a milling machine) so they mount right up to the axle, and the extra width of the tires is inboard so there is no rubbing at all. With this change there is another 1/2" between the tires and the rear shocks.

This is the site I used to calculate tire sizes when I was looking.

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit

I have 205/55/15s on my car. Stock was 185/70/13. It appears that you are looking about 3/4 of an inch wider than what I have. No guarantees, but I would guess if your offset is exactly right, then it should fit. Some people have done a few modifications in the wheel well to get a wider tire to fit, but I do not know too much about it.

Good luck,

rayford,
I think the Ford rear is a bit wider than the stock TR7, so you will need to find special wheels as far as the offset to make the tires fit in the wheelwell.
I have looked at putting a GM 8.5 rear under the back if I blow the TR7 one. The width is very close to stock TR7, also easy to get posi & other parts.

It all depends on how much the rear was narrowed and what wheel offset you use. Impossible to tell you without doing some measureing. Measuring the space you have now with whatever tire should give you an idea for comparison.

FWIW, I have 205/60/14 Yokohamas on Panasports with the stock rear. I get a slight rub & plan to do a little grinding on the wheel lips. I know wider tires will fit in the wheel openings but have to be positioned further in than what I have.

With that much motor and now frt heavy, it will be a challenge to get it hooked up. I'd suggest looking at a street drag tire for more grip.
