Roger Williams' new(ish) book

<font face="Georgia"></font id="Georgia">I have just ordered it online. Here in Oz, the cheapest price I have found was about AU$80 - not including postage and about AU$88 through a high St. bookshop. I bought it through an American bookseller for US$47 inc. postage
BUT it's being sent from the UK. ?
With the US/AU exchange rate it works out at AU$51. Bargain.

I was disapointed in the book (if that's what you call it). The book is basically collection of internet postings; with a little digging you can find on our own on the internet at no charge. Some photos are out of order or miss labled or missing all together(many times the orginal author had addational photos the book can't include or the book mentions a photo that's not included in the book - try to figure that one out)...i guess the editor didn't bother reading the book too closely (if there was an editor?). The author (if that's what he's called) pretty much copied words and photos someone else posted.
I could see if the author had added or made more clear what others had posted ...but basically he just copied what he found word for word pic of pic (leaving out details the orginal authors included sometimes).
I suppose it's of some value...you'll have to decide for your self...I wrote the author asking for my money back but he hasn't got back to me. I'm not holding my breath.

I haven't purchased his first book yet... what do people think of that?

The second one didn't say much about tuning the 8 valve 2 litre which was a bit strange given that it's one of the most easily tunable engines ever produced. But then I suppose TriumphTune had already published everything possible about that so why repeat it all.

It's ok, actually. There's some room for improvement, though. The photography could use some work - some of the pictures aren't of TR7s, and some of them could do with some orientation, as it's quite hard to relate them to my own car, sometimes. Sounds like I'll have to get a copy. In spite of any faults there may be these books are all about the TR7 and if I don't get one now whilst it's available I know I'll be trying to get one sometime in the future.

I'm going to be away for a few days but I believe I've scanned much of the TriumphTune material in so drop me an email chaps and I'll see what I can do. The best articles were in Sports Car Monthly in 1986 - I think they said all that ever needs to be said on the subject unless you want to start getting into more than bolt on extras.

Vino79TR7, would you be so kind as to clarify that bit about the author of this book using internet postings? If that is so, this casts a great pall over all of our forum entries, now doesn't it? My late nephew, who apparently was a regular visitor here, wrote of his varied experiences with the TR7 that we acquired from the Estate. If any of those entries have been purloined, we would be most aggrieved.

I do thank you for your indulgence in this sensitive family matter.

I too would be a little aggrieved by the comments made from Vino79TR7. Some of the photo's and text were supplied and written by my Cousin Jim Hearnden who is also mentioned somewhere in the forward. He was also responsible for some of the proof reading of this book and certainly echo's my comments. Whilst a small portion of the content may well have been gleaned from the web recently, it's originality may well have come from Roger Williams previous tome on the same subject and I would think the author would have the absolute right to use some of his own, previously printed, content.

Be very careful with accusations of this type, they can lead to an awful lot of trouble.

I''ve just referred this thread to Roger as he may very well wish to comment!
The first book as Gary quite rightly says I was quite strongly involved in.Quite a few of the pics were taken by me & I wrote captions to mine & also proof read it for Roger (as did others!).
Is it available on the web, answer yes some of it is, either post Rogers book e.g. plagarised or pre in odd areas such as the Rover V8.
As for his comments about reshelling with a Californian shell, tough to rebuild a rusty 7 with new panels is just not cost effective. Mine was a reshell (some of the pics in Rogers book are of mine being converted lhd-RHD at Robsport) even as a reshell mine cost in excess of £16K to be rebuilt. [:(] It recently sold for under a third of that to a very nice man on the Isle of Man who is enjoying it & giving it the TLC that it really needed. A lot of pics are here:-

My name is Abner. I am posting here under my Aunt Mildred's log-in. This matter of potential plagerism hits a sore spot with us, as my late cousin was a prolific writer on this website. His use of and rationale for copyright was made plain to all here and can be viewed in an archived post. We have copies of all his posts that came from his Estate files. Should any of his copyrighted postings be plagerized, then woe be apon that soul.

We do not have Mr Williams books. Before we do, perhaps the author may wish to come forward to explain his sources. Having these lackeys offering up rather weak explanations raises more suspicions than quells them.
