If you all send me £20... Maybe I can afford the kind offer that came thru my letter box this morning... Registration Number 7 SJT (thats my initials).

A few years ago i passed a car at the side of the road in France, I'm sure it was registered 8 SJT. Couple of years ago I stalked someone with the reg SJT 8. Turned out I knew the family slightly, I was told they would never sell.

I know a guy who used to have TA 7. In the correct font it read TR 7.

I did buy TRA80K (TR A8 OK) but foolishly left in on the car. Alas I cant afford anything interesting at the mo...

A few years ago i spotted 1 AN on a moggie minor in Colchester and then spotted the plate for sale in one of the Sunday papers for £100K - just a little beyond my budget!

Recently spotted the plate and the car for sale again, this time for a lot less money - one small problem the number plate is now non transferable and still stuck on the Minor.

Such a shame

Good Q. John-do we know why specifically for this car?
If the car is beyond use then without an MOT and VED it would rule itself out.

When purchased in Victoria our 8s number plate was TR 8.

Unfortunately in Oz, each state has its own registeration system. We
now have a normal Queensland number plate. Something like TR 8, in
Queensland costs $2500, which I think, is better spent on the car
itself.

I've long been amused at the prices that cherished plates go for in Blighty. Plates that don't even look like what their owners imagine them to be fetch £10s of thousands.
Here in Oz, you can have almost anything you like, as long as its not offensive, although I thought the girl in Adelaide with "MILF 69" might come close to offending somebody! Me..I chuckled..and from memory I think she was too!!!
Hasbeen is right. Every state in Oz has different rules & charges & the plates are not transferrable between states. Here in SA, compared to the UK, plates are dirt cheap.
Before I saw the error of my ways, and bought a TR7umph (please don't hate me, I was young and easily led) I had "MGB" on my.....well...MGB. When I sold the car I tried to sell the plates, but had no interest. I had to give them away. Imagine what they would have been worth if that was in the UK?

It's the same in Sweden, you can have whatever you want as long as it's not offensive or rude and
with two to seven positions. Cost is SEK 6000 (~UKP 500) for a 10 year period and the plate is easily
transferrable if the owner changes his vehicle for another one. I've seen lots of nice/funny combina-
tions over the years. (My colleague, for instance, have TOPLEZZ on his car, since TOPLESS was already
taken...)

Ian, 1AN was for sale on Ebay a few years ago on the same Morris Minor, it sold for £3,500. It is a non transferable number.

Why Chris?, back to my earlier question why are some not transferable?, if that one was it could easily be £100,000 looking at some of the prices quoted.

Little tip I bought a plate recently for my wife <font color="red">"Karen's"</font id="red"> birthday.

I was after a <font color="red">KW</font id="red"> plate with a few numbers, I saw <font color="red">5881 KW</font id="red"> advertised on a few websites anything from £2450-£2950. To cut a long story short I got it for £1035. I suppose the moral is, make an offer and stick by it. The company kept phoning me saying the owner wants this £amount, the owner will know accept that £amount senario.

I stuck by my guns over a 3 week period and the owner obviously conceeded and realised it was only worth what someone will pay for it and i eventually only paid £35 more than my original offer.

He probably got less than that after the company took their commission (if thats how they make money?). So I doubt the one's advertised for £50000 actually fetch that, unless I suppose there are several people after the plate.

Here in BC, Canada we're closer to Sweden. Any plate you want that's not taken or offensive (two to six letters and numbers) for $100 with $40 per year to renew. But I'll stick to my Collector Plate (all numbers) with it's cheap insurance (and pre arranged replacement value). Pays to live in the right country, right Odd?[:D]
