From time to time I do browse the various forums and pick up on anything that concerns me/my club so having found your post felt I should coment on it.

Interesting you can formulate your entire opinion of my club because I removed copyrighted information from U-Tube. My permission from the copyright owners to show that particular video clip only allowed me to show it to club members and not the general public. Because a member had illegally posted an edited version done by the club it was easily identifiable as having come from the club site so to avoid legal proceedings against me/the club I had no choice. Not my personal choice just somthing I was legally bound to do.
Thought you might like to know the truth.

I believe Richard (whom purports to be Charlie on this forum) is referring to comments I made in the forum topic about some historic video being pulled from YouTube.

My view regarding the TR7/TR8 world wide owners club is that it is not a <i>club</i>in the true sense: comprising members of mutual interest supporting each other for the common good.

Rather, it is a commercial venture that places the interests of owners ahead of members. Evidence for this is apparent in Richard's comment above that he "<i>browse[s] the various forums and pick up on anything that concerns me/my club</i>"

If I got a mail with so much spelling mistakes (remember I am from a non English speaking Country [:I]) I would happily ignore it. Might even answer in that context [}:)]

So, what makes it a club rather than a membership only site?
Just his choice of terminology, I reckon.
After hanging around here for a year I would happily contribute $20.00 or so annually toward the running of the site, but would not be inclined to pay him up front for access to his site. (After which he would likely try to sell me t-shirts and car badges with his site name on them) I have no quarrel with anyone trying to get support for their website, but please be up front with it!

Omichaelshar It is a great shame you didn’t have the guts to email me direct but choose instead to try and belittle me by posting my private email to you. You made judgement in another post without knowing the facts, this was both unfair and wrong of you. I simply provided you with the true version of events. Guys you can sit all day saying this, and saying that, BUT tell me this, what have you done for the TR7 TR8?

I have spent over twelve years on the committee of the TRDC building their overseas section up from scratch and now run an area group for the TR Register and still provide a great deal of FREE TR7/8 content for folk which is steadily growing. Don’t know where the FREE STUFF is? Take a look www.tr7-tr8.com/CLUB and follow the links particularly the collaboration section for which I’d be very happy to take your contributions.


There are three main reasons the world wide TR7 TR8 Owners Club has to charge/be a club.

1. The cost of hosting high quality video is extremely expensive given it uses a great deal of bandwidth.

2. Much of the footage I have permission to use can only be shown to club members so prevents me from using U tube etc.

3. The definition of a club is that it is private and not open to the general public and thus has some form of limiting membership, fees, academic qualifications, professional body etc. Interaction by like minded people.

we have a number of country representatives, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, and various TR sister clubs. Via the affiliation with the TR Register UK any of our members can attend any TR Register UK meeting / event without having to be a member of the TR Register. We also hold a few meetings in the UK of our own plus the new web site system allows all members to interact on almost anything.


I bought my first TR7 in 1979 and have owned one or more than one ever since even having a WHITE TR7 and a BLACK TR8 on my wedding cake. There is no money making to be made in the TR7 or TR8 now or in the future because the people who own them do so because they love the car not because they want to make a fast buck. Clearly Omichaelshar thinks I do this for the money so ok, answer me this Omichaelshar if you still doubt me, where exactly should I make the money from TR7/8’s because I’d really like to know and so would my wife!

Unfortunately I mislaid my original id details of rconnew some time ago so created another id of CHARLIE in order to answer a previous post this has now recently been fixed thanks to Jay.

We live in a commercial Pay-as-you-go, Pay-to-View, Pay-as-you-earn world and I have no problem paying to view Richards website for the paultry fee of £10 for a whole year.

I work in "Retail" and we get more than a few people who want it all for free. Amazing really that some people cannot grasp the fact that in order to survive there must be income and it must exceed expediture! The decision to purchase (or not) lies with the (potential) customer, no-one is forced to purchase.

I am now off over to Richards site (I am a paid up and happy member) to check out the T-Shirts etc. quite possibly to give him some more money.

I too have got some very valuable Free tips here. Special thanks again to John 215 for the info on my brake kit. I also love seeing what others are doing with thier cars around the world and especially in the UK.
Having said that, I've never done pay sites. Not disputing the costs of operation but I have too many bills to pay now. Call me cheap if you want but it's just the way it is for me. I'm a dues paying member of the two local MG & TR clubs and that's it for now.

The point I was trying to make...there is no disputing the value of this site, it is an amazing resource..and it's free. Richards site has an amazing amount of archive material, all the period ads, magazine articles and videos. It too is an amazing resource that costs £10 if you want too join.

It's all good.. What IS the problem?

Surely the more sites the better...

some of the guys doing tr7 v8s rally cars are scratching their heads how to set up their cars
for example tarmac Manx set on suspension, brakes ,gearbox ratios diff clutch ,ride hight steering,camber , carbs jets/ injection engine spec to use for the rally etc if they go to Richard site its all there
this just one example lots and lots of other information seen no where other than Richards site

I am not a member of Richard’s site and do not plan on joining it anytime soon. But why are you guys upset with him over this? He had a legitimate reason to remove a video from youtube and he communicated to this to another member in an allowed manner. I do not see anything wrong with this .

However, as a general rule, it is considered in poor taste to share private e-mails/messages with the public, unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

And (imho) everything that is published on the <u><b>web</b></u> one way or another should be free to share with others in the given context. If you don't accept that, you shouldn't publish it on Youtube, but somewhere else.
