Hazard warning/indicators

Postby andyf » 26 Mar 2008 06:13

On Monday I took the car up the M5 to see the parents, and came upon the almost inevitable bank holiday traffic jam, so switched on my hazards briefly as a warning, but when I switched them off, I found my indicators didn`t work, so I went to pull off at the services and they were working again.
Later that evening when I got home, I tried it again and the same thing happened.
Yesterday morning they were still not working, but when I got home from work last night, they were OK.
Needless to say, I haven`t touched the hazard switch again, but anyone have any ideas what could be causing it?

The `hazards` rarely get used - once at the MOT per annum ! plus the odd occasion. The switch breaks the into the indicator cicuit and age and limited use make the contacts a bit iffy-giving the switch a good few on/off toggles is worth the gamble and it should clean the contacts up a bit-have to think about changing the switch long term if trouble persists. In my experience all the switches don`t get a lot of use especially if car is a fine weather cruiser and they are all getting older each year with the chance of playing up!--as the saying goes "use it or lose it".

Cheers Howard you are right. At a guess is was at the last MOT that I used it - July last year. I will give it a few on/offs and failing that I will take it out and give it a clean (as best I can).
