WOLFRACE WHEEL NUTS PROBLEM!!

Postby tr7inc » 15 Nov 2007 06:47

Please Please Please can someone offer me advice on what to do, as some of you may know i have been after a set of Wolfrace wheels for my 7 for sometime noe and have never bought a pair cos i was never too sure about fitments etc, well i got a pair at the weekend after finding them on an auction site, and i agreed a deal with the seller over the phone afer seeing the pics etc and that was that, i picked them up after the NEC show took them home and was very pleased with them, the only concern i have is that im sure they are not the correct wheel nuts for them & even the locking nuts dont look right, i think unusally ive let me heart rule my head, and ive spoken to one or 2 people who deal with nuts etc and they say the seatings dont look quite right, but couldnt be sure. If anyone out there could send me there email address i will send you some pics to show you, for any help i really am grateful.

Just to continue, the Wolfrace wheels did come off a TR7 i saw them on the car and saw the 7 itself when i went and picked them up, so if they are the wrong wheel nuts well the driver of the TR was taking a big risk driving with them on,could anyone send me a pic of what a proper wheel nut for a wolfrace should look like! thanks again all

I am going from memory here, but I believe the Wolfrace slots used to have a squared off bottom with a shaft that went into the wheel hole, and this was combined with a tapered washer that sat onto the tapered insert in the wheel (if you see what I mean).
Any chance of posting aa pic of what you have, and of the wheel hole, just to jog this old memory.

If the worst comes to the worst, wolfrace are still in existence, so it may be worth calling them to see if they can help.

Wolfrace wheels have a dished washer that fits in the slot, you can readily get these from a good wheel supplier.

The wheel nut also has a tapered end so that they centre themselves

Yes - you must have these washers and the correct sleeve-nuts to suit. Anything else will damage the wheels.

To be honest guys im not sure what to do at this point cos i know the wheel nuts that came with the car were on these Wolfrace wheels i have now, and came off the TR7 i got them from, problem is have they damaged the wheels themselves? and if so how will i know? i spoke to a chap earlier and sent him some pics of the wheels etc and he says he has brand new wheel nuts to fit my 7. problem is that the washers that went with th nuts i have now have beded themselves in that well i doubt i can fetch them out, as he said that the nuts he has are of wolfrace fitting but would need to get the old washers out as they were in at a 60 degree angle and wolfrace should be 90, i think thats correct, anyway im not sure now as to what to do, all this trouble just because i wanted a set of these wheels for my 7 for so long.

my washers or should i say the original washers that come with the wheels were in there solid and were rusty so i drowned them in wd40 then from the inside face of the wheel with a screwdriver just managing to catch the outer edge of the washer and carefully knocked them out.

cleaned them up planted new washers and hey presto jobs a gudin' as they say, they are a bugger to keep clean tho but look the biz on my fixed head. nice thing is they are from the era and as someone told me on here were an optional extra in some garages..

I doubt whether the wheels themselves will be damaged, You will have to get them balanced so the tyre shop will tell you if you have any problems. find an old fashioned or privatly owned tyre shop if i was you. one near me balanced fitted tyres from other wheels i had for a fiver a wheel bargain or what..

Hello Steve, you have mail, but everything I said is as already posted by John here. His pic is what I was trying to explain in my first post. That is what you need. It sounds as though it should not be a problem to get hold of them.

Andy.

Many thanks andy & everyone else, i have found the nuts & washers, all i need to try and do now is to fish out the old washers that have bedded themselves in the wheels for goodness knows how many years.

Many thanks all

Steve
