Jim,
When I bought my car, the speedometer worked sort of, and the odometer didn't work at all. I replaced the speedometer in an afternoon with a new one from the Wedge Shop, I believe, for about $100.
I'll look for you on the 8th.

High praise indeed. All things considered I'd rather have one as nice as yours Beans. I just don't have that kind of patience and I would be afraid to actually drive it. You guys are going to make me feel guilty about getting the body work and paint done. [:D] The wheels and flares and loud exhaust will stay. The primer black bonnet and lack of top will not. I've had about enough of the hard core thing now. Driving in a hail storm with no top or heater will do that to you when you're my age. 25 years ago it might have been a different story.

I'm in Oregon next week, planning to get LASTTR out on the road for some driving. Hope to do the May 8 tour with Portland Triumph Owners. You should think about coming along.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

Ken, Do you have a website or other info on the Portland tour? My car is in Bend, OR, possibly the only TR7 in town. The car is telling me it wants to mingle with some of its own kind.

Jim,

I recently fitted a new Rimmers sourced speedo cable to mine. I had to "persuade" the clip to fit up against the speedo properly, otherwise the cable wouldn't engage properly. Lots of grazed knuckles the speedo worked again

Nick,
The PTOA website still says details to be announced. Last year we gathered in the Beaverton area in the morning, took a roundabout scenic drive through hills and farms, ending up in Cornelius at the Papa's Toys car show, then had a BBQ in Forest Grove. I'm assuming something similar this year. There were about 4 wedges last year, it would be great to have more.

Adam, thanks, but I pretty sure that it clipped in all the way. Shouldn't the cable turn if the car is moving, even slowly down the drive? It doesn't appear to move when I watch the speedo end while it is disconnected.

Nick, Ken is right about the web site. I am having lunch today with some other club members, I'll see if I can find out more. I've never gone on this tour before but have heard only good things about it. The PTOA does have a Yahoo group that more timely information is put out on. I've been a member of the club since 1982 but haven't been real active the last few years since I didn't have a car. Then after I got this car I was working nights.

Yes Jim, it should turn even if the car is going slowly. Is it one piece cable or is there a service counter hooked up in the middle. If not and it's not turning it's not connected right at the transmission end. It's a square end in a square hole. I've had speedo cables (in general) the didn't get fitted in properly and they don't necessarily fall into place when turning. Other than that it could be a broken/worn speedo gear at transmission end.

Ok it's clear that your car may not be perfect, but I just like the simple no-nonsense look and attitude.

As for my patience ... it's starting to wear thin.
As it stands now I think I'll need at least one more month to get her finished [B)]
And the weather's been absolutely gorgeous over the past few weeks ...
If we hadn't had this long winter !

I'm happy I've actually gotten to drive mine a little. We just set a new record for days with rain in April. The old record was 24 days, with today we've had 25 with a few days to go. It is supposed to be nice this weekend though. I just hope that there aren't too many nice days while it is in the body shop. I'm not really changing the look or the attitude too much. It'll be smooth and shiny but still sit the same. Hardcore with softened edges maybe? Anyway, I'm excited, I'd like it to look as good as it runs and drives now. A top and heater would be nice too. [:D] I'll post new pictures when it's done. Hopefully in less than 2 months.
