You know it's MOT time when........

Postby busheytrader » 11 Nov 2009 22:12

Two nights before the test one of the rear drum slave cylinders decides to leak.

Two slave cylinders are bought from Robsport (if one has gone the other is sure to follow) and the offending item is replaced at midnight before the test. The other cylinder is inspected for leaks but it's good so decide to change it a few days after the MOT.

The morning of the MOT, the "good" slave cylinder has leaked fluid over the garage floor. Aaaaagh!! The MOT garage agrees to shift the MOT from early morning to mid-afternoon so I can replace the 2nd cylinder.

On the way to the MOT the engine pops and bangs with a chronic misfire. I check all the LT and HT connections and carb as best I can from the roadside but no improvement. I call the garage and embarassingly have to cancel as it's barely driveable. Back at home I suspect a broken wire inside the distributor......

So much for taking a day off work for the MOT.

Quite a story, busheytrader. And much frustration for you.

For a safety check, everything checked out at home. I get to the station and the high center brake light no longer is working. Then the bulb is stuck in the socket so that I can't change it myself. The mechanic has to use tools to remove the bulb, breaking some plastic tabs in the process, and gives me the bill. Uuughhhh [:(!] !!!

Yup, sounds about right. That's why I do my own stuff. In the odd time I might break something I only have to pay for the part. Mechanics are not Gods, just people, many that have less mechanical ability than ones self. Plus they don't have the time to fiddle and/or do the job right.
