I have had trouble with my radio since I got my 7.It turns itself on and off and when it is on it swaps from CD to tuner randomly.I had it out and rewired it as it was just twisted connections and both live feeds were rammed together[:0].This seems to have cured the self turning on thing however the radio still swaps from tuner to CD player with the bumps in the road[:p].A tr guy I met told me that the severe angle of the radio mounting area in the 7 causes this problem. If that is the case will fitting a radio cassette intead of a radio CD cure this? I am travelling without tunes[V].I may fit a CD changer in the boot but I only listen to the radio realy.

It may just be that your CD is very sensitive to bumps. I have never had a problem with my radio/CD unit (Pioneer). Presumably it changes from CD to radio on bumps (as it skips on the CD) and not the other way around, so if you only listen to radio it works OK for that. Alternatively, there are some reasonable cheap replacement units around. I 'temporarily' put a Sendai unit bought from Halfrauds for about £30 in one of the Saabs until I got around to fitting a changer unit. Its still there 9 months later and working fine. The only problem with using a cassette now is that it not easy to get cassettes (unless you have loads of old ones lying around like me).

Hi,
Sounds like a Radio/CD player issue itself rather than car, why not get a radio with a MP3 (memory stick) or I Pod interface all your 'tunes' in one place, i have a radio/cassette with multi player in the boot, complete waste of time as can only hear the V8 [8D] , not that i am complaining!
Did anyone see the Grinnal last weekend with the speakers set it the pannel behind where the roof drops into [?]
Cheers John

I agree with John, sounds like a fault with the unit itself.

Where I work now we have a semi retired guy who does electrical repairs on TVs, videos, DVDs etc, & we get quite a few car CD/radios brought in with faults.

I am sorry to say that most of the time they are not repairable - you either cannot get the parts or the parts cost more than a new unit!

The other problem is that most modern units are too long to fit the TR7 & will protrude from the mounting slot.

I was kinda hoping it was the radio and not the car.It is odd as it will work perfectley stood still only when you get on the move does it have a fit[:(] cd,radio..... no it's cd...... hang on no radio.....I was told the mounting angle upsets the cd sensor? Anyway I have been to fleabay and found a quaility period radio/cassete for peanuts. No point going mad on a new one the fm is turned off in 5 yrs [?].Now may be a good time to set up a digital car radio shop!
