charcoal canister

What was the reason for going from the single charcoal canister to the double canister from 1979 0n?

What are those canisters like FI Spyder?

My 9Th month 80 TR7 had a single canister, as shown in a 1977
Leyland repair manual, before I dispatched the thing to the council
tip, where I store such stuff. Of course, our Oz cars were a bit of
a mongrel mix of UK, & US spec gear, so we may have been
used to clean the parts bins of superseded stuff.

As you may gather, originality is not my main thing, & I did not
like the black slurry that came, when I inverted it.

Then you must have a closed gas system unlike the UK - Europe? that just puts the gasoline vapour into the air. (That's why gas caps are different between UK and N/A. A friend put a locking UK gas cap on his and he could smell the gas fumes.

I was just wondering why they would go to two from one (more expensive) unless some how they needed a extra capacity. Here's a picture of how they look.
