Tell you the truth, i wouldn't mind putting some 2.0 DOHC engine, they can go like anything and possibly quite economical and reliable. I had a 1.6 DOHC escort and that was a pokey car. Turbo charging sounds good too. I'd love a totally different engine swap than a V8, because everybody does that and 16v sprint...maybe.

I am working on something completely different at the moment though[8D]

I'm not a fan of the Sprint head which looks heavy and boring compared to the light and airy 8V head but every time I see Chris's immaculate engine bay I think, "That looks really good."

Sorry Beans... I did say "looks". Would still like the the high end reving and power though. Is that a 4-2-1 header you have? Have you had any problems with the steering rod going through the header heating up and cooking the universal joints?

I think if I ever went to the expense of a header I would get them ceramic coated.

Here's the reason I went the 16V route - I wanted to go rallying like the early works cars.

Benefits being an easy fit into the TR7 and not too large an increase in BHP for a novice rally driver. More power would also mean more modifications to the suspension etc which would delay my debut!

I am in the process of converting to "Sprint Power." I have not read all of the posts, but I can say over here in the states, it is much less expensive to convert to a rover V8. Including the almost complete FI system, I have well over $4000 in the engine alone for my Sprint project. I paid less than half that for the TR7 that will "host" the Sprint Power. And the $4000+ in engine costs is on par with what I paid for my TR8. I didnt have to do anything but sit in and turn the key on that one.

As I said I am in the "process" of converting to Sprint power, I have no idea what it will be like to drive. It would probably be done if I would stop adding complications such as deciding it "needed" to have fuel injection, that is petrol injection for you non-states guys/girls.

But, here are my reasons:

1. The "COOL" factor!
2. The "COOL" factor!
3. Fuel economy over the V8. (That is what I tell myself anyway)
4. To complete the collection. I have already have a V8 and FI 8 valve 4 cylinder.
5. And I must admit I prefer a long legged high reving 4 banger compared to the short and stout 8. I prefer tall blond women too. [^]
6. It is a hobby for fun. So why the heck not?

Terry - I got my first Sprint engine for £75 off e-bay, then another one given me in a swap and finally, the third off e-bay for £35 complete with Sprint overdrive gearbox. I have decided to stop collecting them now!

Fuel consumption is better tho - I get 30-32MPG in high speed touring road runs against what, 24-25?

And I didn't have to swap the subframe, relocate the battery, buy two new exhaust manifolds (headers?) - just one and I could use the same sports exhaust sytem fromt he 8 valve.[8D]

That indeed is a 4-2-1 manifold ...

Till date haven't had any problems with the UJ from the steering rod getting cooked. Clearance between steering rod and manifold is pretty roomy. But not so between manifold and chassis rail. It's burning the paint straight of, but doesn't touch, which is more important

Mine's got a Sprint engine because I bought it on eBay as a <s>rusty old heap</s> restoration project. I didnt purposely buy a Sprint - the vendor mentioned it only as something that someone who went to view it had told him.
