stock TR-7 cylinder head thickness

Any here know the thickness of a new/unshaved/uncut/unwarped cylinder head ?

To be honest never read anywhere that dimension for a TR7 head, V8 yes, but not a four pot.

Neil has a new one for sale, if you ask nicely he may measure a set point for you ???

There are 20 thou thicker head gaskets available if you need one.

Hello Tirebiter, welcome. This topic has been discussed on this forum. I bet if you use the search function and read through some old posts you will find it. I do remember that you measure from the half moon cutouts to the top of the head but the number escapes me.

Hi Nick, Thanks for taking the time to do the search. I looked at the link but did not find a number. I have found what people say is the minumum thickness as measured from the half-moon

(actually it's the cam journal diameter but in the front or rear of the head. No other way to align-bore the cam journals during manufacture)

to the bottom of the head (4.427 inches or 112.45mm) but the same people do not also specify what is the maximum amount that can be safely milled from the head.

I have read a couple of different specifications for how much is too much to remove. Thus my enquiries.

The minimum thickness is to do with valve timing. If you want to mill more from the head to increase compression, you will have to re-drill the cam wheel to avoid retarding the valve timing too much. Depending on which pistons you are using, you may have to increase the valve cut-outs.

Nick, Yes, I saw where the minimum head thickness was listed. I'm trying to find a specification for what a new head thickness is.

TR-7 and TR-8 are two different cars. I like them both.
