With my door lights in the flush position, they only light up when the door is open. IIRC, flicking them down is permanently on and up permanently off.
I'd rather have had a single light shining down from near the rear view mirror as per my MX5 as the 7's door lights shine straight in your eyes when you're in the car.
When Grinnall repainted my car I ended up with someone else's lights, one chrome and one black, both cracked and damaged and wired up so neither worked when the door opened. Getting good replacement was difficult and that was in the late 80's
