1975 Triumph TR7 Sprint - KDU 366N (KDU366N)

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Hi,

Here are the first pictures of ACG 5 in it fresh paint, I am sure you will agree she looks stunning. I am sure Roy will be along to update this car's journey to being not only one the earliest car's over here but also one of the best [8D]

Euhh ... missing the black rear light panel [:p]

Otherwise looks quite nicely, still shame about the hole in the roof, but that's history [;)]

On a positive, this is another early FHC that gets a proper treatment [8D]

Hi,

Glad you keeping the roof Roy, part of the car and would be fairly certain bearing in mind its history was installed in the factory poss. prototype fitted for future production, you know how these early car's got treated, basically a test mule.

Cheers John

Euhh ... missing the black rear light panel

Good spot Theo but there is a reason that the rear panel is not painted black. When the car was discovered & recovered the panel was white - it was assumed that it had been black like all early TR7s but that at some point in the past a previous owner had painted it white. However when the shell was being stripped & prepared for restoration Roy found no trace at all of black paint on the rear panel.

Now it could be that someone had meticulously removed the black paint before painting the panel white, but it could be that it was never painted black in the first place! Unusual I know, but Roy has a very keen eye for bodywork & he could see no tell tale trace at all of black. I also saw the car in it's unrestored state (I helped take it to pieces) so I can confirm this.

I was with Roy at the paintshop yesterday when he first saw the finished car, it is indeed a superb job done by a father & son team in a small unit local to me. From a mechanical & specification point of view Roy has decided to restore the car to "as found" condition, including the sunroof & leaving the rear panel in body colour. The car has a number of interesting features only found on very early examples. It will not be "over restored" like some classic cars that you see, although knowing Roy's attention to detail it will be to a standard that we would all like to aspire to.

One thing I am glad about though Tony he is not going the whole hog and putting that hideous red stripe on it.

Thanks for popping the pictures on for me John.

Tony, as usual with his literacy skills (something I sadly lack) has explained perfectly why I've left the rear panel body colour. I think that because it was a development car that was just going to be shipped over to Canley, they didn't bother to paint it Black. There was most certainly no Black paint on that rear panel,I checked very thoroughly, believe me.

No Red stripe John. It is my intention to fit a set of the genuine Sprint side stripes, (thanks Chris) as per the photo of the car in the David Knowles book.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I was only looking at it today and thinking to myself that it all seems a little daunting at the moment. I do like the bodywork side of restoring cars, but not so keen on the spanners and oily bits.

Anyway, going to make a start tomorrow. Now where did I put that petrol tank ?[:o)]

Hi,

A lot of prototypes and test car's seem to be white, I heard something to do with seeing faults and distortions in the body work easier, a lot of competition cars have under bonnets etc. painted white.

A friend has chassis No. 2 MGF and that's white.

Opposite to yourself Roy, not keen on the bodywork but give me a spanner.....[:)]

Cheers John
