Triumph TR7 Turbo

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Triumph TR7 Turbo - Saab

Postby john 215 » 01 Mar 2014 05:33

Hi,

If I remember correctly ' Rosey ' on here may have owned the TR7 Turbo that was Ebay a year or two back, forgive me Dave if I am wrong [:o)]. The turbo by modern standards is HUGE for a two litre and must have massive lag !

Sure this car had its original 4 speed still fitted [:0]

Cheers John

The SAAB engine is inclined to the right, and drives the front wheels.
There is nothing of the Leyland engine left in the SAAB Turbo.

This R&T report is as suspected about the original Kas Kastner turbo engine he tells us about in Bullet Reloaded (albeit with a different blower). Kas did not think a turbo slant 4 was suitable for mass production because he had to O ring the cylinder head to stop blowing head gaskets. Not an option on a production line.

The updated Saab slant 4 cannot be easily transplanted into a TR7. It's back to front for a start.

Saab caused the infamous slant 4 and Triumph V8 head gasket problems in the first place by requesting the ability to remove the head(s) without first taking out the camshaft, which is also detailed in Bullet Reloaded.

BL Down Under developed a turbo kit for the TR7.
With this turbo kit fitted the engine produced ±150 BHP.
But sadly this kit was never marketed.

Yes it was me, it's still in my garage waiting to be used on something.
