Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Postby JSutton1 » 11 Feb 2014 13:25

Rebuilding a 5 speed.

What is the technique for removing the bearings from the shafts?

Can some direct me to a link?

Thanks!

Jim

A combination of pullers and a Hydraulic press is best.
Hopefully you don't encounter a bearing as tight as this one [B)]

Is that what you call friction welding?

Hi Beans,

WOW that looked like a stubborn some of a b1tch to remove ! Had them tight before and even had to warm them up but nothing like that !

These boxes are no big deal rebuilding them done lots, unless you get one like friend Bean's, Be careful setting end floats, ensure that all the oil drillings are clear and as normal with rebuilding boxes replace all snap rings gaskets etc.

A few pointers here -

No signs of that, probably Loctite. But that's a guess.
