Hi all
Owner of 78 tr7 5 speed
Rear Drum
Front Disk
I am just about to go and buy some brake parts and have read most of the posts on brakes. I have come to some conclusion on how best to approach this.

1 The front calipers and rotors to be replaced with the Ford Capri selection using John Clancy Quote "Ford Capri 2.1 injection. Front ventilated discs, calipers and pads."
Is this all i need for the front brake system? And what particular model is best?
Also i have 13 alloy wheels and need/want to keep them!

2 the master brake system with the Volvo master and booster.
Is this an ok combination using the above Capri!
Can i just use the Volvo master brake in place of the original master brake. This would be the cheapest version, to just buy the Volvo master brake and booster and just replace the non functioning master brake.
The original front calipers and rotors are fine just need to be kitted out and the back brake drum calipers are apart after must puffing. and can be sleeved and kitted.
The master brake just will not come apart so is easier to put on another master and booster and i also want to be able to maintain the brake system with local parts.

I know that this subject has been done to death but i was going to go and buy a Volvo (version of the 250 range) brake system- booster master and calipers and rotor for Au$330. Then kit them out and use them. I know that there is an issue with drilling out the rotor and that is fine but that there is issues with wheel size and that there is a need for a spacer.

Also does anyone have a good alternative for the clutch slave cylinder?
Would like to hear anyones opinion on these points.

And as always a really great forum

Sunnie, the 2.8i capri bits won't just bolt on, you need a spacer to get the disc in line with the caliper. The kit of parts sold by S+S, Robsport etc here in the UK provide this. Unfortunately, I don't think 13" rims will fit - no doubt somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.
with regard to master cyl/servo, I believe there is a Volvo combo that fits, just don't know which one - again, the UK specialists sell a kit which I believe consists Leyland Sherpa van parts, and bolts straight on.
Sorry if that's a bit negative - I understand that shipping from UK is a bit, er, pricey!

Hi All
Went to the Volvo yard to day to look at some brake setups to gauge what would be a suitable replacement for the servo/master. There seems to be plenty of room in the tr7 brake area.

The best i could see came from a 960 sedan about a 96 model. This was a big car and quite heavy so the unit must be larger than what is already in the tr7.

It was a system that had a prv as well as a pump set up for abs. The stud pattern was a little smaller than the tr7 standard est 75 mm v measured 90 mm.

I would only need to drill four holes to attach it to the fire wall and the Volvo shaft looked good for length and is a small issue. It also came with a sender unit for low pressure.

What are peoples comments on this setup and keep the rest original. I still have to have it passed by the govt so i want to be a close as possible to original.

Once on the road i can change the brakes again but i need to be able to pass a MOT/Car Worthiness.

I believe the Capri brakes fit without spacers where original alloys are fitted. But don't take this as gospel.

I also believe the servo and master cylinder are also of the Capri 2.8i variety. That would rather make the job a tad easier methinks. You could always email Robsport for confirmation as they're friendly chaps.
