Wiper rack grease

Postby Rich K » 05 Oct 2021 20:53

Hi, just in the process of overhauling the windscreen wiper system on my wedge. I have used silicone grease to lubricate the plastic gear in the wiper motor and the sliding plastic part of the park switch. Looking for advice on which is the best type of grease to lubricate the wiper rack and wheel box gears. I’m thinking of using multipurpose LM grease as this is not too thick and should not create too much friction. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks, Rich.

Thanks Cam. That’s the only grease I don’t currently have in my collection! Looks like Amazon Prime will be getting another order!

I used a clear synthetic grease on mine. That was 14 years ago. I figured synthetic because it should be more stabile and not dry out over time. Not sure of brand name but should know over the course of next few months as the gun needs a new cartridge.

Hi FI Spyder, I think synthetic grease is the same as silicone grease, which I do have. The reason I didn’t go ahead and use the silicone grease on the rack was that the stuff I have seems a little thicker than the general purpose lithium grease and I want to minimise any drag in the mechanism to aid efficiency of the motor. I guess anything is an improvement compared to the semi solid 41 year old grease currently in there.
