So I installed the Davies Craig EWP80. I love this thing! Kicks on after shutdown and cycles water through the head to eliminate heat soak. Makes pulling the intake manifold easier. AND, the loud resonant vibration that came from the engine between 3,300 and 3,800 rpms is now GONE! It ain't as quiet as a Prius, but it's close. If you've been thinking about it, just jump in. Oh, and the heater still works too!

I've been recommending these things for years, fitted one to a mate's 32 Ford roadster hotrod running a 429 Ford V8 (7.0 litre) a bloody good piece of kit. I've got one for my 73 landrover running a 351 Ford Cleavland V8 (5.8 litre)
That is if I ever get around to finishing it.......who knows I might end up with it in the TR yet!

Mounting is simple, you just cut a section out of the bottom radiator hose and then insert the pump between the hose ends. Then remove the thermostat, set up the wiring, temp sender etc.
For most cars with a conventional mechanical water pump, the impeller can be removed from the shaft of the old pump and the old pump housing will provide the connection spigot for the bottom hose. But it's possible to do away with the pulley, shaft and water pump housing if it is advantageous for your installation by fabricating a new lower spigot housing to bolt on where the old water pump lived.
Our cars (2.0 4cyl) however do not have a conventional water pump set up. I can't remember the details but it is still possible to fit these EWPs to our cars There is a Dolomite Sprint specialist in Sydney who does it, it might be possible to source the required bits from them.

I think there was a thread on the old forum regarding fitting these pumps. Someone was making a plug to blank off the existing pump opening on the TR7 engine if I remember correctly.
If it is fitted in the bottom hose and the thermostat removed how does it control the engine temperature? Would it not run too cold?

Thermostatically controlled switch for the pump.

It has an electronic controller that adjusts the pump speed according to engine temp.

They have been making thermatic cooling products since the early 70s, we used their thermatic fans in our race cars back in the early 70s and have used them since.........absolutely reliable, never had any trouble with them and I've found them very approachable and and helpful when ever I've had technical questions.

That makes more sense than an on/off sensor, would not like to stop the flow through the engine! Have to admit I have not read that book for a long time.

Sprintspeed do a conversion set to fit this pump to a slant 4 engine

I silver soldered brass plates on the top and bottom of the existing pump cage, and used core plugs
to block the holes in the manifold and pump cover.
The existing heater returns to the pump cover, which works because this is a low pressure point when using the
mechanical pump. When the EWP is used the entire block is pressurized, so the heater return will not flow. To get
around this, I tee'd it into the pipe that connects the radiator to the header tank.

It is easily the best mod you can do to a Slant 4.

Did you use the controller as well or simply rely on the pump as a stand alone?

I Used the Controller...it replaces the thermostat.
This allows you to set the temperature that you want the engine to run at, and
it turns the fan on when the engine is 3 degrees above the set temp., and turns it off
when it drops to 2 degrees below the set temperature. The fan would only come on after 10-15
minutes idling in traffic in warm-hot weather, and then only run for approx. 3 minutes.
It also allows you to run the pump for a specified time after stopping the engine, or
until it drops to a certain temperature.
