TR7 Gearbox Leak

Hi folks, I am hoping you good people can offer some wisdom.

My 4 speed 'box is out of the car and I have noticed that there is a leak from the extension. When I turn the input shaft by hand, the area around the end plate/cover (Rimmers p/n 22G1422) weeps a little, right next to the reverse lift plate. It's the part in red, in the picture.

Do you think replacing the end plate will cure this? i.e. is it a known leak area, in peoples' experience?

Many thanks

John

John,

I seem to recall the part 88G564 is just a blanking plug, which shouldn't really have that much oil behind it, personally I would be checking it for being warped, and resealing it with some gasket sealant when replacing it.

That's my view on it.

No expert on the 4-speed 'box but looking at my parts manual I'd say that there shouldn't be any oil coming from that part of the 'box.
Otherwise there should have been another O-ring (TRS912) to the front of the gear lever housing. And the slot for the reverse lift plate also has no oil seal.
So I'd say your oil leak is coming from somewhere or something else

Thanks guys, very much appreciate it. I'll have a good look at the area to see what's going on, and report back.

Cheers

John
