Prop shaft

I am re building a 5 speed TR7.Can anyone tell me which way round the prop shaft fits.It has CV joints both ends and one jointed end is longer than the other but it is not clear which way round it goes or does it not matter.

I always thought the hole patterns were different. For future reference I always take a Dremel with a cutting disc and make a single notch across both surfaces at the front and two notches across the rear two surfaces so there is never any doubt even if they are painted while out.

Thanks so much for the reply and photos.I have had a few issues with the re build because I bought the car fully dismantled.Most things are logical but I was struggling with this one.Thanks again.steve.

They are different but you wouldn't notice until you refit the propshaft. I made a note that the wobbly bit was at the gearbox end so mine went on first time - lucky me.
