Just done the mod as described by others to enable the use of New style Wipers.
It really is an absolute doddle and it in no way changes anything permanently
5mm rod off the bay £5.00 delivered 5mm tap equally a fiver
3 x 5mm nyloc nuts
4 x stainless washers
£20 on a set of Bosch wiper blades I bought them singly so have both 16 and 18" as standard
60 minutes later proper functioning wipers,I use my car all year round so being able to see was more important than originality but everything can go back to standard in a few minutes if reqd. Excellent mod

I just replace the rubber portion of the wiper. If your wiper arms are in bad shape just remove them, brush them with any rust removal chemical to get off any rust/white oxide, then sand any paint edges to smooth them off and spray paint with trim paint (which is satin/semi gloss). Look like new. I did this when I was quoted a price of $157 for a wiper blade for my '88 Tercel wagon. Did it for my 7.
