Wiper Wheel Box Covers

Postby Stevie P » 12 Sep 2015 08:54

Hi guys

Could someone please send me some photos of the wiper wheel bax covers.

My 7 seems to just have balck plastic covers, sort of rough cut, I am sure they are not right.

All help appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Are you referring to the spindles that the wiper arms fit on to, or the gearbox on the end of the wiper motor?

IIRC I'm not aware of covers that fit on the wiper arm spindles, they just fit under the scuttle panel with that cosmetic black facia fitting on top of the scuttle panel. Due to building work my Wedge is elsewhere otherwise I'd be looking at it now.

The wheel box covers (spindle covers) are cast aluminum (or some such alloy) cone shaped with a rubber type gasket. One gasket is round and one is oblong (not round) shaped to accommodate the parallax wiper. I made new gaskets out of thin neoprene sheet. Don't have a picture handy. Robsport calls them spacers.

Hi guys

I mean on the bulkhead in the engine bay, where the wheel boxes are extracted from. Mine has black plastic covers, almost oval shaped, about 4inch by 8inch, are they correct?

Thanks,

Steve

OK, now we're cooking with gas. Mine are stainless steel rectangles (or aluminum but you get the idea).

I'm still not sure what you mean. As far as I can recall my wheel boxes have no covers. I believe there was a recall about 78ish to fit spacers to the wheel boxes and a cover to the wiper motor and to replace / confirm appropriateness of wiper blades. supercass

Hi Steve,

The wheel box covers are rectangular thin plates of steel with radiused corners and have a thin foam gasket glued to the back. They attach to the body with two self tapping screws. On the drivers side the wheel box sits behind a cover with the spindle protruding from a cut out in the upper side. On the passenger side the wheel box does not sit behind a cover, but there is a corresponding cover on the body to blank off the position where the spindle would be located on cars which drive on the opposite side. I.e LHD and RHD.
Hope that is helpful,
Rich.

Ah - I know what you mean now. I have just taken mine off as part of a rebuild so if I can find them in all the boxes I will photograph them later today (Busy with cows most of today!)
