ok had some time yesterday to go back over my headlights, those from the 40th anniversary run may remember mine "smoked" a little just before driving up to liverpool and had too many things on the go to have a look, anyway i re did the wiring, lights all work fine, can hear at least one relay clicking when lights put on and the pektron unit when using flash but the headlights refuse to budge, any ideas, if a motor burned out would that stop both lights going up, drivers headlight is feed to passenger side is it not? smoke last year was passenger, battery side, was going out for another look today but its now chucking it down......

If I remember correctly from working on mine both lamps are seperate after the Pectron unit, each having its own relay and wiring to lift it.The red connectors are the supply to the motors and the two seperate wires are the up/down signals.I would disconnect the battery and raise the lamps manually firstly just to satisfy myself that they are not seized.Good luck,Steve..

I had the same problem after I replaced the carpets in my DHC.

Ok, how did carpets cause this? Replacing them dislodged the circuit breaker that sat amongst the wiring behind the glove box. It killed the power to the headlight motors. I found it under the new carpets I'd just put in.

It's a small brown item IIRC and just look how much it costs now

I have a simular situation at the moment with my lights, but for me it is only one side that is not working (the drivers side). When I turn the lights on, I hear one relay click, the one on the left hand side of the fuse box. I looked at the Haynes manual and thought this was the relay to the passenger side light, which would makes sense, as that was working. I then turned the main beam on and this one clicked again, so I am not sure if this is the main beam relay or the working passenger light. On main beam, the drivers side didn't move. I have some more relays on order, which I hope will be here very soon as I want to sort this issue out. I didn't think of the breaker, as one was working. I think my issue may be due to a relay, but it could also be a fuse that has gone.

Change the relays over side to side and see if the fault moves with it,this would (probably)confirm/reject the relay as defective, giving you a head start on other problems(only half in jest).Steve..

well checked just now and one headlight, drivers, seems to pop up and goes back down a touch but no movement on the passenger side but as can only hear one relay that could be half the problem, trouble is the lights not going back down.........

sons, motors def free, been using car as daily driver so need to wind them up soon as it goes dark to carry on driving...lol

At the risk of a breach of etiquette refer to clubtriumph.org.uk and search for headlight wiring and there is the best description of operation I have seen.A meter and some thought will soon pinpoint the fault(or faults as there may be more than one).Steve..P.S do a Google search and it will take you to the post as you will have to register to use search.Steve..

Yesterday, my new relays turned up and as soon as I got home from work, I was down in the garage fitting them. I fitted just the one and they both started working fine. It only took the one relay to fix the issue, so now I have a spare relay, for another time/fix. The good thing is that they both go up and down at the same time now, it looks so nice. Not it is time to look at the next job on the list :)

Hope that you have fixed your headlight issue.
