Does anyone know the correct length of the dipstick tube on UK spec cars?
Thanks

I have a dolly sprint dip stick in the 7, so can't help with this one, but if you change your oil, & put in 4 litres or 4.5 litres if you change the filter too, then adjust your dip[stick to read full at that level, you will be pretty close. I did that 14 years ago, & the engine ran for 11 years like that.

My rubber pipe is exactly 390mm long but the dipstick is a total of 560mm long from the collar at the top to the vey end of the dipstick, including the flat metal section on the end with the level markings on. It is 525mm to the end of the spring section.
hope that helps

Thanks for the responses - all useful stuff. The dipstick tube disintegrated on my rustbucket so could not measure it, but then again since it has not ruin since 1993 this is not a great surprise. Will measure up some 3/8 fuel hosing and fit.

When my dipstick tube broke up I was able to retrieve the two pieces and match up the ends and thus was able to measure the length and cut a piece of fuel pipe to suit. However I found that when the new tube was fully pushed down onto the receiving metal tube from the sump it was obviously too short. This leads me to believe that the tube was not fitted right to the bottom of the metal tube when the car was assembled. It may thus be more meaningful to use another datum point such as the length protruding above the air filter box clamp that secures the tube. supercass
