Water Pump spindle Left Hand thread

Postby alansti » 08 Aug 2014 12:36

Hi All, I'm trying to extract the Water Pump from my spare engine but while trying to prise the pump out by fitting a large washer under the Left handed bolt I seem to have stripped the lower 3/4 of the thread. Does anyone know the correct size die to recut the thread in the pump spindle please?

I think it might be easier to just replace the spindle unless you can find a left-hand tap of the right size.

I have measured a spare one as best I can and it seems to be 5/16" with a TPI of 24. Certainly not metric as none of my thread gauges fit.

Best of luck.

Thanks for checking Russ, I'll probably need to restore the thread just to get the old spindle out. It maybe worth tapping a right hand thread though.
