Radio Connections

I have removed the radio so that I could fit a period Triumph radio instead (it's a Motorola badged as 'Triumph'). I now seem to have the option of too many wires from car to radio as well as different colours car>radio!

The wires from the car are:

1. Red
2. Green & yellow
3. Grey/grey-black (double)
4. Green/green-black (double)

The wires from the radio which I want to connect to are:

1. Blue
2. Green
3. Black (single)
4. Black (single)

So my main query I think is to do with the speaker connections, i.e. single-wires from the radio but double-wires from the console area.

Please could anyone guide me on this?

It sounds like your replacement radio is a mono unit.

I thought of that as a possibility but the cassette flap has "Stereo Cassette / auto eject" proudly printed on it.

Are you missing the power plug for the new radio then.

Typically the black wires are negative connections, blue and green could be left and right positive connections. The usually have seperate negative wires for the left and right and many radios specifically had instructions not to use the body as part of the circuit for the negative speaker wires.

Power is generally red. Newer radios use yellow for constant power (battery) which maintains the memory and blue for the auto antenna.

I have just removed a Motorola Radio/ stereo cassette from my TR7 when I sold it & have fitted it last week into my Manta.

The radio was 'new old stock' when I bought it so i have the fitting / instruction manual.

Below is the wiring diagram - the extra wire on the TR7 could be for any electric ariel as that will be the only extra wire.

Apart from that - think maybe some wires are missing - can you post a photo of the connections ?

Thank you, I will do that this weekend as I suspect I am making a meal of what can only be a simple set up!
