Electrical Question

Hello! I've owned my 1980 Tr7 for a few years now, I'm new to this forum though.
Anyway, the other day my tr7 overheated. I think I'll have to replace the head gasket, not sure, no water in oil, but one cylinder has low compression and water in it. That's not the question though, the question is when it overheated, I turned it off to cool it down, when I tried to start it the dash lights turned on, fuel pump primed, everything as normal, and then when I tried to turn it over everything shut off. No dash light, no start. A few minutes later it came back on, voila, started, and ran perfectly while I limped it home (perfect electrically, albeit the whole overheating thing, I hadn't found out yet about the water in the cylinder.)

Any ideas what it might be that's causing the electrical shutout issue? (Or thoughts about the head gasket)

Make sure the ground isn't loose on the battery or the engine.

I would clean the connecting block by the battery where there are a couple of major thick wires plugged into it. These can corrode causing major electrical failures.
