I am a little puzzled, I have fitted aldon electronic ignition to my Tr7 and things run no problem , I picked up the feed from a switched source adjacent the radio,however on starting the car it appears it only fires when the ignition key is released . It is as if I have a supply that is only energised when the key is released from cranking the engine. is my thought process logical I cannot imagine it is a characteristic of the module , any comments welcome.

Can't remember the wiring for the 7 but many cars are set to cut out the accessory circuit (ie including radios etc) on starting to give full power to the starter. That circuit only comes back when the key is released. The power for the electronic ignition should be taken from the white cable at the ignition switch IIRC (pretty sure that is where mine is connected but don't have the car here to check).

After a bit of research to view what an Aldon Ignitor actually looks like, I see it is just another name for what we Colonists call the Pertronix Ignitor.

The good news is there is nothing wrong with your ignitor, the problem lies in the hands and heart of its installer. For your personal comfort and convenience, we have in our new and handy Workshop Manual section, some specific instructions for correctly wiring your new ignition system.

thanks for advice I have rewired to white wire from ignition and all starts ok
Obviously with hindsight which is a marvellous thing I had picked up a switched assessory feed hence only started when key released
However on test run the near side headlight unit is now bobbing up and down not related but another challenge

The 8 has episodes when it does that winking of the nearside headlight, sometimes when switched on & others after being turned off.

It is related, on it, to the connectors in the front of the engine bay. Cleaning those connectors fixes the problem short term. I do not understand why treating them with dielectric grease doesn't produce a permanent fix.

I have found hitting a moderate pothole with the nearside front wheel will usually shock the thing out of it's winking.

Thats a bit of a sensitive issue in the UK. We have more potholes than smooth road in places. I split a tyre on the Saab a few months back on a deep one filled with rain. The Council are supposed to fill them but denied all liability despite admitting that they had been told about it some days before.

Roads are pretty bad around here in Gloucestershire, not helped by the very wet recent winter. Anyone following me along most of our local roads might think I have had too many drinks! You have to steer a fairly zig-zag line to avoid the worst of the potholes and often a line out near the middle of the road is smoothest.
That's OK until you meet oncoming traffic, that's when its tricky because they are doing the same thing and it gets to be a game of chicken who gives way first.
