Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Convertible (DHC) TR7 Press Car Launch JRW / KHP

A rare one in a rare colour:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRIUMPH-TR7-CONVE ... 19bdac8f5c

The listing says registered Jan 80, so with the UK launch of the DHC in March 80 this must be a Press Car or similar.

Convertible (DHC) TR7 Press Car Launch JRW / KHP

The TR7 press cars were finished in mostly non metallic colours (the exception JRW 588V was Platinum & JRW 600V which was Persian Aqua) and weren't offered for sale to the public on the convertible. They were registered in Coventry on numbers from JRW 580-600V, these registrations were issued to the factory in October 1979 and used on cars registered between Oct 1979 and March / April 1980. TR Drivers club member Roy Hankins has an Inca yellow car registered with a KHP number.

Convertible (DHC) TR7 Press Car Launch JRW / KHP

I wish the TR7s & 8s here in the US had more character. I love the idea of a registration plate being a major point of determining the details of a car. Here we have a VIN and unless its a TR8 coupe no one cares. The excitement of hey look it TUD 686T or JRW 588V makes the car have more presence in my mind. Its lame to say hey its TPVDV82048567 blah, blah, blah.....now how can I get a car from the UK to my house with in reason? [;)]

Original press release DHC

Postby Graham Robertson » 12 Sep 2010 14:53

Went on a run today and was suprised by a friend, who has a Spitfire, but he turned up in a new TR7! Apparently its an orginal press car from when the DHC's were first introduced:

Graeme (the owner of the new car) is actually a member of the forum but I can't remember his user name. No doubt he'll be along to give a few more details. He's found a few old magazines with similar cars featured, but has not found his car yet. There were a few press cars with consecutive registration numbers. I believe they were all "Inca yellow"?

It's a really nice looking car!

Convertible (DHC) TR7 Press Car Launch JRW / KHP

Funnily enough I've just written an article about the 1980 convertible press cars. Listed most of their (JRW or KHP) reg numbers including their (mostly) non metallic colours, about 20% are Inca yellow. As I recall 599, the one pictured was on the motor show stand in 1980.

Good to see a pair or original looking dropheads together. And with the Keepax alloys too - beautiful.

1979 RHD DHC on Ebay

Postby TR Tony » 09 Sep 2011 19:57

Interesting one - a RHD DHC on a V plate apparently registered 1st November 79. Registration begins JHP - a lot of the factory cars were KHP so obviously registered in the same area.

Development car or a conversion? Pics aren't the best & it's not exactly standard condition.

Item number 260850961759.

A recent article by Chris Turner in TRDriver mag about factory press dhc's of 1979 mentioned that 2 other convertibles were built in 1978/9. These were not in the run of cars registered JRW. A yellow one surfaced a few years ago. Wasn't that one registered JHP? Prototypes were usually built in pairs, could this be the other one?

Just remembered the other one was S reg (doesnt necessarily mean they are not related). Isn't there a press pic of a JHP dhc in Kimberlys book?
