AccuSpark Electronic Ignition

Seasonal Greetings !

I'm considering electronic ignition as a crimbo present for my car (it's a surprise, the car doesn't know yet !).

On ebay, there's this Accuspark kit, but having trawled t'internet I can't find any reviews.

Anyone have any experience of these ?

Also there's the SimonBBC offering, anyone fitted one ?

I bought the Accuspark but it did not fit my oddball distributer (I still have it somewhere) I then bought a new distributor and coil from Simon. Brilliant!!!!

Aldonauto now do a Electronic Unit for TR7 - more expensive than Accspark.
Think others on this forum has used Aldon.

Like you I am looking to change my points system although so far they have been 100 % reliable.
When I phoned up Accspark they said they were developing the Unit for the TR7 as it was not previously listed on their Application List so now must be out.

If I remember Aldon has to be wired to the ignition Switch & Accspark goes to the 2 connections at the coil - so take your choice I suppose.
£40 delivered sounds cheap so think I will give it a try in the spring when I get the car out again.

Just does my back in & skins my fingers changing the points !

Recently fitted an Accuspark new distributor, coils and leads to an Escort RS2000.
Cost £95.00 delivered.

It made a huge improvement.

I had exactly the same idea for a Xmas present for my Tr7 and bought the Accu Spark Stealth Kit 31. The trouble is I've bottled it a little as the car is running perfectly (I really shouldn't have said that!) So I will read the distructions and practice installing it on an out of the car distributor to see how easy or Not it is. I will report back.

I fitted an Aldon Ignitor (Pertronix) a couple of years ago and have not looked at the points (or lack of) since. Cheapest from Retro Rockets in the States ( http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/) although they keep a stock at a warehouse in the UK, and they have very good support response to queries. Quite easy to fit although it does need a feed from the ignition switch (bypassing the ballast resistor). I drilled a second hole in the dizzy baseplate as I was a little wary and wanted the backup of being able to fit the points back if necessary, but it never has been - yet. I fitted it all from the top without removing the dizzy.

Could you scan the fitting instructions complete 1 to 11 as Accuspark, as below, they say or the supp;lier it is simple to fit but hey can see from some of the Instruction sheet to remove the distributor - eh not quite 'just 2 wires ' !
Like you my TR7 is running fine but taking out the Distributor is another kettle of fish to upset the applecart.

Thanks very much, the video shows the installation to be very clean and simple, albeit done in lab conditions, I'm sure the Bozz will oblige with a comprehensive illustrated report on his installation as promised !

I'm not getting negative feedback about any of the kits available, they all appear to work, so what's the drawback with the cheaper Accuspark, non adjustable dwell ?

I assume that the version for the AC distributor will be a little different. It is a little more inacessible in having the centif weights above the baseplate. They also do not come off to fit a trigger ring so I assume that the Accuspark will be of the lobe proximity type like the Pertronix.

Thanks Alan and Neil, you spotted the snag, I overlooked it[:I]
In the picture kindly supplied by The Bozz, it looks like a trigger ring, and on closer inspection of the picture, it can be read from the instructions, 2nd Para "Due to the design of the Delco 300..." etc. to the point (sic), the distributor will have to be removed from the car to fit the trigger.

So, this is a disadvantage, compared to the Aldon you fitted and turns what looked like a < half hour job into half a day or more (the dizzy bolts have not been moved for 5 years !)

Decisions, decisions....

Electronic Ignition. Advice Please

Good Evening All.
Just had a good old Krypton tune on my 2.0 1980 TR7.
Very pleased, running so much better, Garage chap suggested I got it changed to electronic Ignition, Advice would be much appreciated, Which one How much, Can I do it myself.

I fitted the AccuSpark Stealth kit which meant taking the distributor out but a fairly easy job. You have to take it out because you have to place a collar on the shaft and the D302 has fixed weights on top so the collar slides on from the bottom.

You also has to add a separate wire from the distributor and connect to wiring under the dash near steering column. I was able to do this so completely reversible if required. The extra wire is because our ballast resister is within the wiring not attached to the side of the engine.

The car was running rough before but now runs perfect and starts immediately and smooth.

I also replaced the coil and plugs from AccuSpark at the same time.

I have used both systems and they are both excellent, mpg is increased and starts much quicker. The Accuspark systems has the advantage on price and its now possible to buy one that can be fitted without removing the distributor.
