Hurrah, KON 890W is back on the road! [:)] Been out for a 50 mile run today and it seems very healthy apart from a small oil leak on to the exhaust and a ill secured bonnet.

The bonnet has the securing catch in the centre and hook type fasteners at the rear corners of the bonnet adjacent to the lower edge of the windscreen. There does not appear to be anything for the hooks to engage with, does anyone know what parts are missing?

Also, whilst on the run out I came across a very nice red X Reg TR7 DHC in Wiltshire County Council's Trowbridge Office's car park. If the Triumph belongs to anyone on here it looks really smart!

Nothing is missing. Those hooks are only for to prevent the bonnet from flying in through the windscreen in the advent of a head on collision (some times referred to a head off collision). It's a safety thing.

Right, thank you. Perhaps my bonnet catch needs some adjustment as the bonnet flexes quite a bit when the car is being driven.

I have had a quick look at the Haynes Manuel and it seems to give fairly straight forward instructions, I will have ago at adjusting it tomorrow.

Nice one for getting your Tr out.
You could always glue some high density foam to the underside of your bonnet in the corners, I think mine has that done to it.

There should be rubber buffers around each of those hooks, that very slightly compress when the bonnet is closed.

They are a bit over 2" diameter, with a flat on one side, & about 5/8 thick. They were available a few years back, but you could make some out of conveyer belt type rubber.

If it flexes that much the rubber buffers are probably missing as Hasbeen says.If you have bare hooks thats what the issue is.

I found that on my 1981 DHC that the rear edge of the bonnet was gently bent across the rear edge so that regardless of the catch adjustment the rear corners would bounce when driving.

All I had to do was place a piece of wood under the center of the rear of teh bonnet near the catch and have a friend lean on one rear corner as I leaned on the other. We worked gently till the bonnet had returned to it'd original shape.

In my case I replaced the collapsed rubber on the air plenum. The new rubber wasn't exactly the same profile so I had to raise the latch so it would latch and still release. You have to be careful when making this adjustment so that you don't get too much rubber compression or the cable won't be able to release the latch. This raising of the bonnet resulted in the rubber buffers no longer contacting the car when closed allowing the corners to vibrate a bit under operation. I was hoping that in time the rubber would compress so I could lower the bonnet. It hasn't happened yet. This is one case where the rubber is too good. I just live with it as it's not a big deal.
