Hello all, apologies if there is a newbie thread I must have missed it.
I have agreed to buy a TR7 2.0 dhc from an old friend. Won't be collecting it for a couple of months or so as he is in the Uk and I am in France. I am curious as to it's exact hsitory as it was registered in late 81 I believe but is a Canley car. VIN starts TPAD.
Presumably it was unsold stock and thus not registered for some time or?

Cheers Ian (Horse dentist in France)

Why did I buy this?

Hi Ian,

[:D] WELCOME TO BEST TR7 / 8 FORUM IN THE WORLD EVER [8D]

Have to admit when I saw your screen name, thought that has to be a spammer, glad to be wrong !

An 81 car would be a Solihull built car, so if a Canley car it did indeed get lost somewhere -

<font color="red"><font size="4">T </font id="size4"></font id="red"> - For Triumph

<font color="red"><font size="4">P</font id="size4"></font id="red"> - For Model range in this case TR7 / 8

<font color="red"><font size="4">A</font id="size4"></font id="red"> - For UK or European Market

<font color="red"><font size="4">D</font id="size4"></font id="red"> - For DHC

<font color="red"><font size="4">8 Character in chassis number</font id="size4"></font id="red"> - <font color="red"><font size="4">T </font id="size4"></font id="red"> for Canley built car and <font color="red"><font size="4"> A</font id="size4"></font id="red"> Solihull built car

You can get a heritage certificate, will give factory details -

http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/ ... cates.html

As far UK owners, IF you are the legal owner then you get a list of previous owners from DVLA using a V888 form -

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... -a-vehicle

May be if your friend is still the legal owners he can fill the form in, it will cost you / him a fiver.

My 81 DHC sat around for a year before registration, this unfortunately not that uncommon.

Cheers John

Hi Ian

First off welcome to the best tr7 forum on the net, YES IT IS.
I purchased my first tr7 fhc 2.0l 8 valve last june.
I most definately could NOT have done all the jobs on mine without this forum.
There is someone here that has had any problems you have now or will have in the future and guide you in the right direction.
Regards Gareth.

Hi Ian, where abouts in France are you? I am a French teacher and there is quite a big club for TR7s over there too.

Good evening, thanks for the welcome and the replies. I will have to ask my friend for more info. I saw the car first last year on a visit back to the UK with my lad and sort of fancied it then. He bought it locally coz he fancied it and it hadn't been molested. He is into bowler and Tornado off road racing. He is occasionally on Motors TV being intervied on the Scottish Hill rally. So the TR7 seemed odd in his garage. Well a few weeks ago I discovered a chance to take a small amount of my pension pot for a few items for my business (I have an online shop flogging horse kit) and decided I would try and see if I could find something for not much money that might do better than leaving it in the bank. Yea right! I have the full VIN and I think the chassis number too on the back of an envelope!
She is a blue I can't remember if pageant or the other, Persian? She had, when mate bought it in early 2012, a new Rad/Gearbox and Clutch, and SS exhaust. He bought a New dark blue hood and carpets (not yet fitted) and 2 new tyres for the Alloys which he thinks are Rover ones? She has he believes a genuine 60k miles and has had a bit of welding on the inner wing/strut area but although solid is not aesthetically very nice and will need a cill at some juncture. All Yes all electrics work inc headlamps and together!

Answers--- I am in the tarn et garonne 1 hour north of toulouse. Place called Cazes Mondenard Post code 82110. Where they grow melons and plums and cherries. Horse dentist name is easy for me to remember as I am on facebook in 2 languages for kit and then again as the horse dentist so remembering passwords is often a problem. I finally resorted to writing them down!

I don'tintend throwing money at her initially but will spend what I need to when/IF the values start to go up. Here in France Clasic insurance should be around 100 euros. MOT every 5 years and no Road Tax after the initial registration. Bargain!

Did I miss anything?
Cheers Ian

Stayed a couple of times in Cahors an hour north of Toulouse, nice area and great for top down motoring, good choice of car.
I remember baking in a black Peugeot 205 gti with no sunroof in August traffic jams just outside the town. [xx(]
