Tickover Query

Postby g4zur » 07 Mar 2014 09:14

Hello All
While I only claim to be a novice when it comes to my wedge, I must say I feel pleased with myself with the results of the Twin SU HS6 carb rebuild I have done. Changed from waxstats replaced bushes needles, floats and float needles, jet bearing kits gaskets etc. Used a colourtune and carb balancer. Runs very well, Using the colour chart regarding spark plug colour Mildrid posted I now seem to have the mixture and balance pretty good.
I know from threads I have read the tickover RPM should be about 800/900.
Question. If my wedge seems to tickover around 600 RPM, Is it ok or am I causing some unknown damage.
Just seems too low to me?
Regards Gareth

Shouldn't be a problem if it ticks over smoothly and dosen't stall at traffic lights and junction etc. Mine tends to be quite happy at around 700rpm, just turn it up for the MOT to help the emissions test. The other thing you might find it that indicators slow down at a lower tickover as the alternator power tends to drop, easily rectified by fitting an electronic flasher unit.

No you won't cause any problems Gareth, as long as it is smooth & does not stall as Alan says.

Sounds like you have done a good job!

Alan/ Tony
Many thanks for putting my mind at ease.
No stalling at all although i keep expecting it to, with regards to indicators, some months ago I changed to an electronic flasher unit I got from robsport, Once again thankyou.

Gareth
