I'm thinking of fitting electronic ignition to my TR7 to aid reliability. I've previously used Lumenition on my TR8 which worked very well but I don't like the visible power box and it requires taking bits out of the distributor.
I've been looking at the Accuspark system which seems quite good, it's all contained inside the distributor and I can return it to points if I want to. Has anyone any experience of this system and is it any good?

if its the one I fitted to the dhc I had then dismantling the dizzy to fit it is fun considering what a pain they are to remove and refit, ( I've got stubby fingers ok.....[:I] )but can not comment further as sold the car before setting it up properly but know there are a few on here that have fitted it successfully.

Like you my TR is under 10k miles & to keep it original I fitted the below kit which does not require the Distributor being removed.
It was 40 quid more than the Accuspark kit but worth it to avoid the one big pit fall of removing & part stripping down the distributor with the Accuspark kit.

I chose to buy the kit via the USA from Retro Rockets who supplied the unit from a warehouse in the UK & it was delivered within a week. This worked out 30% cheaper than if bought in the UK at £76.00p delivered -subject to currency fluctuations, which includes UK VAT.

Andy, it is most irritating when manufacturers have a different name for the same item for different countries. I suspect your Accuspark may be on my patch of dirt over here is called a Pertronix Ignitor. It is an aluminium plate attached with two tiny screws to the points plate in the distributor. On the plate is riveted a black module with a red and black wire. The red wire connects to the 12 volt side of the ballast resistor and the black wire connects to the negative post on the coil. A plastic stator(?) fits over the distributor shaft just below the rotor. It contains four cylindrical magnets that trigger the electronics in the module to fire the spark from the coil.

Is this what you're talking about? If so, they are very reliable and have a longer service life than the stock Triumph electronic ignition and, of course, any points/condensor system. Being the skeptic I am, there is a spare Pertronix unit in the glove box in the unlikely event of a failure. I highly recommend this unit.

I don't know....my Delco electronic has gone over 33+ years and over 102,000 miles with out skipping a beat.

Mildred, over here the Pertronix is sold as the Aldon Ignitor. I purchased mine from Retro Rockets (as Neil) as it is cheaper from the states through them!
The Accuspark is very similar but generally cheaper (and coloured red IIRC). We fitted one in my sons Viva and it works just as well and cost about £30. They did not do one for the TR7 at the time I fitted mine.
