pcd question

i'm in the process of selling my chevette rally car and have a few sets of wheels that would be quite handy for my next project - i fancy a tr7 for some historic rallying.

question is

is it feasable to convert from the standard TR pcd to 4 x 100?

Is that the same as the Ford PCD? If so you could take a look at these:

Alistair Flack does a lot of other uprated parts for the rally TR7 as well, based on what he has developed for his own car.

not ford - that's 4 x 10,8 but along those lines yes. thanks for the link.

You can convert to 4x100. It is actually pretty simple. Get an oversized stud with a wide base like .625". You open the holes up outward using the inside edge of the stud hole and it is just enough to make the 4x100 pattern.

Please NO!! Wheels are safety critical- not something to bodge about like that....... I really do hope this was posted in jest......

My TR7 rally car uses Ford wheels so would think you could use a similar period wheel, although suspect it would be easier to buy the correct PCD wheel for the TR7 fitment. If you intend to enter rallys you should check the wheels you have would be eligible.

my wheels are 6" so legal for anything i might do - wheels are effectively free. the only other rule i know of is bolt on pcd adaptors are not allowed, which would be the easiest way to make the change.

reason i want to do this as i have 3 and a half sets of the 5 x 100 wheels, it would be easier to use the tr pcd, but if i sell what i have, i might just get a single set of tr wheels. whilst we may do some shows, the car will be very much for club motorsport so a selection of tyres is quite handy.

like the idea of using a bigger stud and offset drilling the holes. will look into that a bit more.

i agree wheels are a safety critical item but being an engineer kind of helps the bodge at least be done with some element of science. 10 years in vehicle design and manufacturing also helps.

at present this is an idea, i haven't sold my chevette yet and haven't got a TR, i will probably be asking about brakes, dampers, spring rates and lsd's if things come off as i hope.

There are about 3 TR8s running in SCCA that have done the 4x100 pattern on the stock hubs. Never an issue. Just the horrid wheel bearings problems even with the slightly larger upgrade offer stateside.
