Fitted Accuspark

Hi All.

Fitted accuspark electronic ignition last week, along with their blue coil, new plugs and leads, distributor cap and rotor arm, more or less a new ignition system. Started fine, timing light used set at 10deg BTDC, I believe this is correct at 800/900 RPM. Runs great. Starts well, This is the query, Now when engine up to temp. the idle RPM has jumped up to 1100 RPM. All the time.
Is this to be expected?
Many thanks to Russ for loan of the Dizzy Spanner.
Regards Gareth.

That Spanner is getting some air miles [;)]

You may have to advance the timing a bit - when I put the electric ignition on I think I set it to between 8 & 6 BTC.
This might also reduce the engine temp by delaying the timing spark.

Even without the Service Tool - since the bolts are 'free' a bit of playing with the distributor might be worth a try a bit at a time.

My engine speed actually dropped & had to adjust throttle a bit to keep it at 850 ish rpm

It seems some where in the distant past inscribed on a granite slab one of the lost commandments stated:

#11. Thou shalt adjust thine engine settings only when thine engine is at full operating temperature.

There were some others on there as well dealing with safe driving practices, using coupons to get free pizza, and where to find a clean restroom on road trips. However, I can't remember their sequential numbers. But ol' #11, I do remember.

P.S.

I just recalled another of the lost commandments.

#16. Thou shalt find faith in thine holy vacuum gauge in seeking thy divine 20" of mercury on thy dial at about 850 RPM.

If the idle is smooth, and there is NO pinking - just drop the revs back on the throttle screws...it obviously wasn't right before.....

Thanks for replies.
As for #11 I understand that one.
As for #16 I don't have a clue what you are on about, Excuse the ignorance but as you will see from the number of posts that I am new to all this. Many thanks
Regards Gareth.

Don't worry about 'vacuum gauge' - it's a waste of time...unless driving a steam loco of course - when I have two of them!
