Triumph TR7 Engine Weight

Postby FI Spyder » 14 Sep 2013 13:51

It's true the individual parts are not that heavy. I have a set of 9.25 to 1 compression pistons in a box and I can lift them up with no problem at all.[:p][:D]

Thank you all - very discouraging.....but thank you all anyway.. I have transported a Mini engine+gearbox in the Trav before (~ 3 cwt) and yes - spread the load. I can see getting the TR7 engine IN there could be challenging! If it goes ahead, I'll take some pictures...

I moved a Sprint engine in the back of my Golf without any problem. However when I moved an engine and gearbox the combined lump is much bigger - I had a transit to move that. Getting it out of the van single handed was a challenge, next time I would want help.

According to the same source the standard 3.5 V8 engine is only 28lbs more at 318lbs = 145kg

For some reason I thought it was much heavier

A respectable collection.

It doesn’t help that the TR7 engine wants to tip on its side at every available opportunity. Two of us tried to lift a fully built TR7 engine using a scaffold pole and rope, we tried once and nothing happened, we tried again, looked at each other and said something along the lines of ‘forget that’. I used my engine hoist and a small ‘dolly’ used by the grocery trade, much easier to move about.
