Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

I have an original DHC Press Pack which includes these photos, plus a few more but I have not seen the overhead shot before, so thanks for sharing.

Press Car TR7 Convertibles

Thanks for that! Final proof that the harmonic bumper and the weights are really needed - even though some people say otherwise:

"Torsional damping is provided by an harmonic
front bumper. By making use of the substantial
front bumper armature, which is pivoted at
its centre and fitted with carefully tuned
weights at its ends, Triumph development
engineers have provided an effective and
weight-saving antidote to scuttle shake.
The proof of this combined approach came
after 1,000 miles' testing over the
MIRA pave (equivalent to at least
100,000 normal road miles) . Despite this
gruelling experience the test convertible
showed no signs of structural fatigue."

But how often do you drive over a 1000 miles of pave? I bet the the poor old test driver had no teeth left :D

I have had coupe bumpers on both my convertibles(both now sold) no difference around town and look much tidier without the drooping convertible bumpers.

I also have a rather scruffy original of the Autocar Road Test of 15 March 1980. Perhaps someone has a mint copy they could scan & post.

JRW 588V (the chassis number confirms it is the first TR7 production convertible (DHC)) is now undergoing a 'return to original spec' transformation :)

HI I have just joined the forum after stumbling across it on google when I was searching for TR7 DHC press cars . To help you with your data base I am the owner of JRW 594V (JRW594V) and the car is in Co. Londonderry, Northern Ireland and I have owned it since 1995. The car was used by Motor magazine and it features on the front page along with a Scimitar GTC. The magazine apparently had the car for a year prior to their official launch and it gives the performance figures e.g. top speed, average mpg, 0 to60 etc. The car was russet brown when tested but when I purchased it the car had been professionally painted red as the engine bay and boot area door shuts are all red. This may have been done by BL as the only russet brown is in below the carpet and rear wheel arch area when the trim was removed. The car was in need of restoration when purchased as it was rusting in the usual TR places , rear pockets ,trailing arm mounts but not a basket case as sills very good doors and wheel arch all respectable. the car has been dry stored for 20 years in our workshop and it's no worse than then. I have been to busy restoring other peoples cars that the TR hasn't been touched . The car is currently on SORN - I hope this helps with your data base ,regards Ian lynch

Thanks for the update Ian. It's good to know that another one of the JRW press cars still survives today. I hope that when you finally get around to restoring, you'll return her back to her original Russet brown.
