Spare wheel well replacement/ solutions

Postby Ballyduffian » 15 Oct 2025 13:15

Hi Guys. A while since I've been on but the yellow peril.has been behaving itself so no too much to trouble me, until...
Took the spare wheel out and it has a hole where it shouldnt have.
Cutting to the chase. Does anyone know a source for, have (or aware of an alternative to) the repair panel to replace the whole wheel well. Rimmers don't do it anymore Robsport suggest fabrication. Just winging a hopeful one out that someone has the right bit of tin lurking in a shed somewhere, or knows a man.. etc. Any ideas welcome before I start bashing tin  . Cheers all. E

Your best option is to put in an excellent used one - i think Chris at Classic Automotive has one (in the UK)

On my tumeric yellow TR7, the spare wheel well was one of two spots it had rust. I got a replacement from a parted one from east coast of UK. He cut about 2" up and said "you should have seen the look on the post mistresses face when I said I wanted to send this to Canada. The project has since stalled by my neighbour's kid (12) may inherit it if he shows interest in his school's new collector car program when he's old enough (grades 11 & 12). His Mom is all gong ho on it as she used to pore over auto wreckers with her father when she was a girl in Farnborough and likes driving my TR7 Spider.

The problem is the original piece was huge including the front part of the trunk when only the bottom piece with a vertical edge needs replacing where it could be crimped, slide in place and welded in. I would try to find a parted car that that could be cut from.

Depends on the amount of rot. But fabricating repair sections shouldn't be to difficult.
Cardboard Aided Design is your friend! See this post in my blog:

Replacing the complete spare wheel well is rather more involved:
