Re: WKC4102 - TR7 Convertible Door Seal - WKC 4101 !

Oh for the joys of incorrect parts books published on line and elsewhere! :D

The drophead seals are handed and the correct parts are WKC4101 for the left hand door and WKC4102 for the right hand. WKC4101 went out of stock years and years ago and I suspect that the large quantity of WKC4102 meant that they were sold as being the same for both sides - which is only true for the fixed head cars.

Some parts suppliers use the 02 part for both, others the 01 for both - but the best you will obtain is a reproduction that will sort of fit as it cannot have the extra material on the original unless it is handed and sold separately.
I did have a NOS WKC 4102 and fitted one recently to my car - but that failed its MOT on brakes so I cannot take a picture for a few days.

Sadly that does not help with where to obtain them - but if I can break even on alloy wheel centres I might make this my next project!

Is it right that they are handed because the end at the top of the screen is closed / sealed? If that is the only reason I guess out would be possible to adapt the fitting from the opposite side.

I've got a NOS pair of seals in a Rover parts bag waiting to be fitted to my latest project and they are open at the ends, not sure why.

Original left hand seals had ceased to be available from Unipart/ BL / Rimmers/ etc some time before February 1991 (ie over 25 years ago)
I am not sure where you might have obtained your seals but unless you were very lucky I would doubt they are original.....
Also they should be in separate bags not sold as a pair (though I am happy to stand corrected if someone can show a photo!).

They are closed - but it is not really possible to swap the one hand for the other (otherwise I would have done so as the right hand deals were readily available in the 1990s)

See the recent post with regard to the Unleaded fuel sticker and copies - there are some good reproductions that appear as original and some not so good ones.

They came with a car I bought in 2000 which had been in storage since the early 90s so who knows, probably not the correct parts bag after all this time, anyway they'll have to do now.

Should be easy enough to find some black closed cell foam to glue in the end (with proper adhesive like weatherstrip adhesive).

Picked up a length of generic off the roll seal off a supplier at the Stoneleigh show and glued a piece if closed cell black foam into the end as per FI Spyder's suggestion. Worked a treat and look pretty much as original when fitted up. Cost was About £12 if I remember correctly. I made sure the profile was sufficiently similar by taking a piece of the scrap seal to the show.

Have you tried these guys? http://rubbertrim.co.uk/car_door_seals.php

They used to have a shop in Edgware north west London many years ago. It was like an old style motor factors with bins of stuff everywhere and the guy behind the counter knowing where everything was. I think they turned to mail order only many years ago.
