More tips needed pls

Postby pfenlon » 01 Aug 2015 19:54

After fitting my reconditioned starter motor, new strut gaiters and ball joints, took it for an MOT this morning. all went well until he wanted to do the brake test, it wouldn't start, the choke (automatic bi metal strip type I believe) has not switched off as I couldn't get the revs below 1100. Then the
Starter began to smoke! so test abandoned and a lifted tow home.

After a couple of hours it started first time, but on removal of the diaphragms the fuel level on the choked carb was over the top of the jet, the diaphragm is shot for it won't reseat, but to check the float levels, whats the best way inlet manifold of as the bolts under the carbs look very difficult to get to.

I hope the reason for the overfuelling is the valve in the float chamber not sealing, as usual thanks for any tips to remove the carbs

If the starter motor was smoking there is something wrong there, sounds like it is not switching out when the car has started. Is the key springing back from the start position, other wise might be the solenoid sticking or starter relay?
