Dip Stick information needed

Postby HDRider » 21 Jul 2015 18:51

I have a 1980 DHC with FI. The car did not have a dip stick when I bought it. What I need to know is the distance from the Full Mark to the bottom of the ridge where the handle contacts the upper holder. This dip Stick was only used on early FI cars and appears to be longer than the ones used in the 1981 FI cars.

It is not the flexible type of stick as used on carbureted cars.

It is part number TKC5655.

21 1/4". Wasn't aware '81's were a different length. Next time I'm next to one I'll have to check.

Thanks for the information. They moved the location of the dip stick handle slightly in 1981 which made for a slightly shorter stick.

Nah!

Just do an oil change, stick in 4.5 litres, mark that level, & bob's your uncle as the saying goes.

I have seen the red plastic handles FI dip stick for sale in the past but can't remember where. Vendor, eBay? Though about getting a spare but it's not something you would loose, break, wear out. Unlikely it would be stolen (here, as there are no FI TR7's in the country (that I'm aware of).

Unfortunately a full sump 1980 does not even register on the 1981 dip stick.
